The Bols roundabout: our contribution to biodiversity
A Green Oasis for Bees and Butterflies
At our dental practice, we believe in caring not only for healthy smiles but also for a green and sustainable living environment. That’s why we’ve taken on a special mission: to transform the Bols Roundabout into an ecological paradise for bees and butterflies. With the help of Garden Tales, we’ve created a beautiful 200 m² patch of nature, specifically designed to support the bee population in the Netherlands. We’ve even installed a bee hotel—a sustainable shelter where wild bees can nest, rest, and hibernate.
Just like good oral care, it’s all about the right foundation: safe, natural spaces to grow and protect what matters most.
A small gesture for nature, a big step toward a healthier future.
Why an Ecological Roundabout?
The bee population in the Netherlands is under pressure—and that’s concerning. Bees play a crucial role in pollinating flowers and crops, which is essential for both biodiversity and food supply. By creating a flower-rich roundabout, we’re helping these vital insects by providing a healthy habitat filled with nectar- and pollen-rich plants.
Smart Design with Native Plants
The Bols Roundabout has been thoughtfully designed using a mix of native plants and seed blends. This ensures the vegetation thrives under local soil and climate conditions. We considered both the wet and dry areas of the roundabout and complied with all necessary safety standards to help the planting flourish.
We also added plants that were historically known for their dental care properties—such as peppermint, rosehip, and valerian.
Sustainable Maintenance for Long-Term Impact
After just six months, the roundabout started to bloom. Flowers are flourishing, bees and butterflies are finding their way, and the entire area contributes to a greener, more biodiverse Netherlands. To maintain this blooming oasis, we use ecological mowing practices—cutting only at the right times—so the plants have the opportunity to reseed and thrive, preserving biodiversity.
A Small Contribution with a Big Impact
With this ecological roundabout, we’re making a tangible contribution to protecting nature and supporting the health of bees and butterflies. This initiative is part of our broader vision: to care not only for our patients but also for the world around us.
At our dental practice, we’re committed to healthy smiles and a healthier planet.
Together, we make a difference!
