Safe and Professional Teeth Whitening
Would you like to whiten your teeth in a safe and responsible way? At Bols Dentists, we offer professional and secure at-home whitening treatments using custom-made whitening trays. You can use these comfortably at home in combination with a special whitening gel provided by us.
Our dentists follow the guidelines set by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and only use whitening products containing up to 6% hydrogen peroxide (equivalent to 16% carbamide peroxide).
1. Consultation and Dental Check-Up
Before starting the treatment, the dentist will examine your teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy and that whitening is suitable for your situation. Any cavities or gum problems need to be treated first. We will also assess whether you have any fillings that may need to be adjusted later, as fillings do not whiten along with your natural teeth.
2. Impression or 3D Scan of Your Teeth
We take an accurate impression or 3D scan of your teeth. Using this, our dental lab creates two custom-made whitening trays (for upper and lower teeth). These trays fit snugly over your teeth and ensure that the whitening gel stays in place properly.
3. Instructions and Take-Home Kit
Once your whitening trays are ready, you’ll visit the practice to collect them. You’ll receive clear instructions along with professional-grade whitening gel (containing up to 6% hydrogen peroxide or 16% carbamide peroxide – the highest concentration legally allowed for dentists).
4. Whitening at Home
You apply a small amount of gel to the trays and wear them for one to two hours per day, or overnight – depending on the product and your personal situation. The length of the treatment depends on your whitening goals and how quickly your teeth respond.
5. Check-Up by the Dentist
During and/or after the treatment, you will return for a check-up. The dentist will evaluate the results and ensure the process is going well. If needed, the treatment plan can be adjusted or extended.
6. Reusable Whitening Trays
Your whitening trays are reusable. If you wish to whiten your teeth again in the future, you can simply return to us for a refill of the whitening gel.
Costs
Before the treatment begins, you’ll receive a cost estimate from your dentist. In general, you can expect the whitening kit and custom trays to cost approximately €350.00.
Please note that teeth whitening is considered a cosmetic procedure and is typically not covered by most supplementary dental insurance plans.

I’d prefer to always be treated by the same dentist, is that possible?
Yes, that’s possible. We aim to schedule your appointments with the same practitioner as much as possible. If you’re visiting for pain or an emergency, you may be seen by another practitioner so we can help you as quickly as possible.

Absolutely! We use a completely safe whitening method that works gradually but effectively. Feel free to ask your practitioner for more information.
How often should I visit the dentist?
How often you need to visit our practice depends on several factors, such as the health of your gums and your risk of developing cavities. Your dentist, dental hygienist, or prevention assistant will advise you based on your individual needs.
I’m anxious, how do you take that into account?
We aim for open communication, so please feel free to share what makes you feel uneasy. We can agree on a stop signal if that helps. If you prefer, we can explain what we’re going to do beforehand and talk you through each step during the treatment so you know what’s happening. Or, if it’s more comforting, we can simply chat about everyday things!
Will my treatment be covered by health insurance?
That depends on your insurance policy. We’re happy to help you with information about reimbursements, as we can check how you are insured. For major treatments, we always provide a cost estimate in advance.
